I Bought a Toilet

When you buy a toilet, it’s like declaring to your fellow shoppers that you need a place to go…about your business.

Why does it feel embarrassing?

You know it, and I know it. Everybody…poops.

But this was different.

It wasn’t your average household toilet.

This toilet was a Zimmer Portable Toilet.

That just means that I needed a new toilet where I could take care of business outside of home.

Back in January 2020, I was planning a road trip across Canada, up through the Yukon, into the Northwest Territories, with the goal of dipping my toes into the Arctic Ocean. But we know what happened in 2020. Plans changed.

Today, plans are once again in the works to make the trip to Tuktoyaktuk, NT. Part of that plan is looking towards my golden years of travel. I could buy an RV, but I want a van that I can drive on a regular basis. Part of that plan is to include emergency toilet facilities, hence, the Zimmer Portable Toilet.

This 20L toilet has a detachable waste tank, a large drain for easy clean-up, simple pump access to build up the flush pressure, and a circular water flow for the perfect flush. Ideally, I’ll never use it, but if the feeling hits, I’ll be ready.

Fortunately, there are many do-it-yourself recipes for portable toilet deodorizers. I’ll be sure to have one on hand.

In the meantime, I will share periodic updates on the progress of trip planning, van building, and dream chasing. Stay curious!
